Frequently Asked Questions

InstruSelect is a vendor-agnostic flow meter selection platform that helps engineers compare options across manufacturers based on published specs. Below are honest answers to the questions engineers ask most — including what InstruSelect does, what it does not claim, and where it fits in your selection workflow.

What is InstruSelect?

InstruSelect is a vendor-agnostic flow meter selection platform that helps engineers compare options across manufacturers based on published specifications. You enter your process conditions — fluid, flow range, pipe size, temperature, pressure, accuracy requirement — and it screens flow meter technologies and models, returning a ranked shortlist with the engineering reasoning behind each match. It is independent of any single manufacturer.

Is InstruSelect a replacement for manufacturer sizing tools?

No. InstruSelect is an early-stage shortlisting and comparison tool used before manufacturer sizing. It helps you narrow a wide field of technologies and models down to a defensible shortlist quickly, across multiple manufacturers at once. Final meter selection should always be confirmed with the manufacturer’s own sizing software, the latest datasheet, and a supplier or manufacturer review. InstruSelect occupies the step before that — neutral, cross-manufacturer comparison — not the final validation step.

Does InstruSelect only recommend one brand?

No. InstruSelect is deliberately vendor-agnostic. It compares published specifications across multiple manufacturers — including Emerson, Endress+Hauser, Yokogawa, Krohne, Siemens, ABB, Badger Meter and others — and ranks suitable options on engineering fit rather than brand. A single manufacturer’s own selector can only show you its own range; InstruSelect lets you compare across the market in one place.

Can I use InstruSelect for final project approval?

No. Results are shortlist guidance, not an approved selection. Use InstruSelect to identify and compare candidate technologies and models, then confirm the final choice against the latest manufacturer datasheet, your project specification, and a supplier or manufacturer review before approval. It is an engineering support tool, not a substitute for formal project sign-off.

Why use InstruSelect instead of a single manufacturer’s tool?

A single manufacturer’s sizing tool only shows you that manufacturer’s products and is designed to point you toward them. InstruSelect compares options across manufacturers neutrally, using published specifications, so you can see the full field of suitable technologies and models for your process conditions before you commit to a supplier. It is faster than reading multiple datasheets manually and removes single-vendor bias from the early shortlisting stage.

Where does InstruSelect’s data come from?

Recommendations are based on published manufacturer data — datasheets, application notes and technical documentation — combined with established engineering selection principles (fluid compatibility, flow range and turndown, accuracy class, installation limits and so on). InstruSelect does not invent or approximate specifications. Because specifications change, you should always verify the exact figures for a chosen model against the manufacturer’s current datasheet.

Are InstruSelect’s recommendations manufacturer-approved or verified?

No. Recommendations are independent shortlist guidance based on published manufacturer data; they are not endorsed, approved or verified by the manufacturers named. Mentioning a manufacturer or model is factual reference, not an implied endorsement. Always confirm suitability and exact specifications with the manufacturer or an authorised supplier before purchase.

Which flow meter technologies does InstruSelect cover?

The current flow meter module covers the four most common industrial technologies — Coriolis, electromagnetic (magnetic), vortex and ultrasonic — along with related types referenced in the knowledge base such as turbine, differential pressure, positive displacement and thermal mass. Temperature, pressure and level instrument selection are on the roadmap.

How does InstruSelect screen and rank flow meters?

InstruSelect screens candidate meters against your process inputs — fluid type and phase, flow range and turndown, pipe size, temperature, pressure, accuracy requirement, conductivity, viscosity, density, solids and entrained gas, material compatibility, installation limits and application type. Each meter is scored on how well its published specification fits those conditions, and the suitable options are ranked with the reasoning shown so you can judge the trade-offs yourself.

Is InstruSelect free to use?

The selector tool is free to use. An account is required to save and export your results, and a paid tier unlocks additional features. You can compare flow meter options and see ranked recommendations without paying.
